Winter 2013-2014 in the Moscow region did not go well. Rain instead of snow, constant gloom and melancholy. And also summer time, introduced with the light hand of the perky reformer Medvedev, with the morning starting at noon and ending by lunchtime, turns existence into a real apotheosis of depression.

It’s hard to test cars at such a time - everything is annoying, everything is not pleasant. Any little thing can lead to a final and irrevocable verdict: the car is trash. Therefore, in order to please, the car has to “turn inside out.” And not everyone succeeds in this. Let's see if the perky name Venga, which in Spanish means “Come on!”, helped the family compact van from KIA cope with the prolonged autumn depression.

Let's start from afar. The idea of compact vans came to fruition in the late 90s, when automakers decided to produce a family city car, huge on the inside but small on the outside. The first compact vans were the Renault Scenic and the Honda Jazz, known in Europe as the Honda Fit. The idea was appreciated by many, and now this class is gradually becoming more crowded: there is a Nissan Note, and a relative of the Hyundai Matrix, and Citroen with its Picasso, and an Opel Zafira, and a Ford C-Max, and a Volkswagen Touran.

The main thing in such a car is that there should be maximum volume inside with small dimensions on the outside. The main area of application is traveling around the city. Accordingly, the car must be safe (we travel with children and not only), easy to drive, roomy and small. Compact vans are popular mainly among the female part of the driving community, since they are usually the ones who are occupied with the issues of transporting children and shopping trips to stores.

The large volume of such cars is usually organized due to a high roof and a specific, somewhat bus-like, front seating position, due to which the hood is reduced. In general, as it is logical to assume from the name, compact vans are very reminiscent of compact buses with all the ensuing consequences. Usually, for a beginner, a compact van means a long period of adaptation for the driver to an excessively vertical “soldier” seating position, which can cause a storm of negative emotions. Here the landing itself, and the feeling of dimensions, and visibility - they are all specific. But after getting used to it, you begin to appreciate the high ceiling and spaciousness inside. All this applies to the test KIA Venga - if you have not owned a compact van before, you will have to get used to the car.

But still, let's start in order. Since the car is a family car, safety is an important factor in the choice. With this, the Kia Venga is doing great: the five-star Euro NCAP regalia promises the car a good level of safety not only for all “crew members”, but also for careless pedestrians (of course, within reason). You can definitely travel here with children.

There is a lot of space in the KIA Venga - both in the back and in the front. In the back, by the way, there is a flat floor, which allows three people to ride comfortably in the back row, and in case of two passengers there is a central armrest. And then the panoramic roof adds a pleasant feeling of spaciousness. By the way, it pleases not only travelers: the KIA Venga with such a roof acquires additional charm thanks to more emphasized soaring side lines.

A roof with a panoramic viewKiaVenga looks good, especially if the car is white. Thin lines on a black background emphasize the flowing contour of the car's silhouette.

But in generalKIAVenga strongly resembles the “younger”KiaPicanto- the car really looks small . Many people even confuse it, althoughVenga is significantly larger - almost half a meter longer and 20 cm wider. It's a pity, but a set of standard colors forKIAVenga is not so bold: for example, there is no olive color, which can make any girl fall in love with him.

Instead of thick plastic, the panoramic roof is covered with mesh. Convenient for protection from mosquitoes in the summer, and additional light in the cabin during the day.

The fully reclined front seat makes it easy to fitKiaVenga of the representative of the Russian Olympic basketball team. The rear passengers will, of course, have to make room. But does such an honor come every day? You can endure the inconvenience. In normal times, when normal-sized people sit in front, such rare inconveniences are fully compensated by the center armrest, its air ducts and a flat floor.

When you seeKiaVenga from the outside, you wouldn't expect such a spacious trunk. A full set of school bags, bags of groceries and many other useful and extremely necessary household items can be easily accommodated here.

It is not clear why, but the central hatch for oversized items such as skis is not hidden under the armrest. Most likely, savings and thoughts about the not-so-high level of safety of poorly secured cargo played a role. Therefore, for trips to the ski slopes, you will have to fold down the seats, which easily form a flat trunk floor. There are no other small “things” here - no tables, no cleverly retractable cup holders. Only the maximum configuration offers a net for securing cargo. In thatKIAVenga is somewhat inferior, for example,CitroenC3Picasso, which is stuffed with little things for comfort on the road.

Under the trunk floorKIAVenga “hid” a spacious secret compartment for tools and a spare tire. Access to the wheel is easy - the floor folds down conveniently and the box can be easily removed. But it’s better to save the tires: riding a “back-to-back” car is not the greatest pleasure in this life.

But from the front we are faced with all the nuances of a “bus” boarding. Let's start with a pleasant “bonus track” - these are the armrests that are equipped with the top trim levels of the Kia Venga. Each crew member has one. This is convenient - everyone can choose a comfortable seating position without disturbing the neighbor on the side. But the minimum seat height will seem a little high for those who are used to lying imposingly behind the wheel of their car: here you need to sit and control everything that is happening around you. In the city this is not so noticeable, but on the highway it can cause inconvenience. I also want more flexible steering adjustments. Again, everything is fine in the city; discomfort arises on long trips, when the driver is forced to sit in the same position for a long time.

The wide front pillar of the KIA Venga requires some getting used to - quite large objects can hide behind it. But after adaptation, everything goes away - the car’s visibility is good, so we’ll chalk up this claim to autumn depression. Moreover, the maximum configuration of the KIA Venga offers its captain a sufficient set of assistants. It’s especially nice to get parking sensors and a rear view camera - the abundance of rusty, inconspicuous fences in Moscow courtyards can make even an experienced driver turn gray prematurely.

Data from the rear view camera inKiaVenga are displayed on a screen located in the rearview mirror. The solution is excellent - it looks nice and is convenient to use. In general, technologically advanced and tasteful. Unfortunately, it does not offer a solution for automatically cleaning the rear camera.KIAVenga - the vertical bevel of the rear part gets dirty quickly. The camera gets dirty along with it.

Pilot availableKIAVenga is a complete set of modern automotive technologies that ensure both travel safety and comfort. By the way, when the engine starts, the low beam also comes on. So don't be alarmed if you can't dim the brightness of the dashboard - perhaps you just forgot to turn the headlight switch to the working position.

Despite some quibbles, in general the ergonomics of the front space of the KIA Venga pleases with elegant consistency. The car no longer looks so Korean that it can be confused with a “German”. Which, in general, is not surprising: the chief designer of KIA is German.

Front inKIAVenga has everything at hand, thoughtfully, elegantly and conveniently. All switches and buttons are clear, the glove compartments are located perfectly. The brightness control of the instrument panel illumination is good, but the red information display could be dimmer at night.

Three-well "tidy"KIAVenga looks laconic and stylish - you can feel the German hand of chief designer Peter Schreyer.

Although the “Koreans” are rapidly turning into “Europeans”, the Asian desire to please the buyer in any of his craziest desires regarding electronic “gadgets”, which is now often captivated by the “Chinese”, still remains.Bluetooth, outputsUSB, product connectorsApple - everything is available here. And the glove compartment has a special compartment for safe storage of the tablet.

KiaVenga on the move

Venga has pleasant suspension adjustments: the car stands confidently on the road and corners well. Although, it should be noted, this is achieved at the cost of losing the softness of the ride of expensive sedans - the KIA Venga’s suspension has a slightly “stool-like” character. Good characteristics Braking is provided by full disc brakes.

The KIA Venga's sound insulation is average - it's not that there is road noise in the car, but the cabin could be quieter.

But, despite the declared excellent aerodynamic characteristics, the car quickly gets splashed with mud. It’s bad that the side windows and mirrors get dirty - when driving along the highway in bad weather, you will have to stop often to clean them. But the KIA Venga can boast of high-quality headlights - the headlights look like they came here from a car a class or two higher. They provide excellent illumination of the road and roadside. The spot of light smoothly fades into the darkness, there are no over-lit areas when the difference between the brightness of light and dark areas blinds the driver. And in bad weather, the headlights, unlike the glass and mirrors, slowly become dirty - apparently, this is due to the high seating position of the car.

The clearance height is enough to feel confident on our roads and drive onto curbs. But don't expect any special achievements. It’s even better to remember that if low-profile tires are used, as in our case, you need to handle them more carefully. Firstly, in serious potholes it can be easily broken, and secondly, when parking along a curb, you can damage the disc by rubbing against it.

The four-speed gearbox surprised me - it’s so last century! But it provides the KIA Venga with pleasant dynamism. For example, in comparison with the CVT Citroen C3 Picasso, the dynamics of the KIA Venga are heaven and earth. But at the same time, the antediluvian gearbox affects efficiency - it is not the best here.

The declared 6.5 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle is almost impossible to achieve - when operating in the city, you need to focus on 8.2 - 8.5 l/100 km, although in traffic jams the consumption will increase to 9.5 - 10 liters, or maybe and higher. “Pensioner” driving and uniform movement along the highway will reduce the travel budget by half a liter - to 7.7 - 8.0 liters per 100 km. But it’s better not to look at the instantaneous fuel consumption: figures of 36 or 28 liters per 100 km during acceleration can lead to a heart attack. Antediluvian machine gunKIAVenga could provide a very enviable dynamism to the car, but for the sake of compliance with environmental standards, the gearbox-engine pair is “strangled”. As a result, the response to kick-down is a little annoying due to its delay.

SUMMARY

Our test drive has come to an end. Did the KIA Venga compact van manage to overcome the autumn depression? - We definitely succeeded. The car pleased with its consistency and solidity, which makes it more like a “German” than a “Korean”. Good driving performance, spacious interior and excellent maneuverability make the KIA Venga an excellent city dweller. Plus, the five-star safety rating is reassuring when driving the family through a crazy metropolis. Of course, I would like the KIA Venga to be more economical, but pleasant dynamics will help close your eyes to this issue.

But on the highway, Venga will lose to cars “tailored” for long trips. Here is the “soldier” landing, which is not so easy to withstand for a long time, and is not enough wide range seat adjustments. However, if long trips are not a priority, then once or twice a year you can easily endure these inconveniences.

To the creatorsKiaVenga managed to bring the warmth and enthusiasm of the southern sun of Spain into the car. "Let's! - says Venga, - Let's go! And I don’t want to deny her this, despite the autumn gloom.

KIA Venga is a front-wheel drive five-seat Korean compact van from Kia Motors. The Kia Venga was developed in Germany and produced at the Kia plant in Slovakia since 2010. This environmentally friendly, economical, safe family car was designed specifically for the European buyer.

A concept version of the Korean car Kia Venga called Kia No3 was shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2009. The car was equipped with an unusual glass panoramic roof with a diagonal strut. The model turned out to be beautiful and modern and was warmly received by the public.

Already in September 2009, a model called Kia Venga, created on the basis of the Kia No3 concept, was demonstrated in Frankfurt. Venga was not much different from the concept car presented six months ago in Geneva. Unlike the concept, the Venga has become a little longer (the length of the Kia No3 is 4045 mm, the Venga is 4068 mm), and the radiator grille has also been modified.

German designer Peter Schreyer and developers from Kia Motors worked on the model. Schreier gave the car a signature Kia grille, known as the “tiger nose.” The stylish plastic sidewalls and spectacular rear optics attract the eye. Sales of the Kia Venga in Europe began in 2010.

The first version of the Kia Venga turned out to be a beautiful and impressive, but expensive car for its class. In 2011, the developers got down to business again, soon to offer the viewer an updated model. The modernized Venga received a cheaper basic package. In the basic Classic configuration, the model is offered with a 90-horsepower 1.4-liter engine and manual gearbox, equipped with ABS, two airbags, electric power steering, air conditioning and power windows.

The updated Venga has acquired new options. Among others, there is cruise control, rear parking sensors, a rear view camera with a display in the interior mirror, and an iPod cable. Thanks to the panoramic roof with sunroof and factory-tinted windows, the car's design has become more impressive.

Technical features

The Weng is 4068mm long, which is shorter than many compact city family cars. This allows the car to be maneuverable. The body height of 1600 mm makes the Weng a spacious car, leaving quite a lot of space above the driver's head.

The rear row of seats is divided in the Kia Venga in a ratio of 60:40. Each part folds out to form a flat floor, which is very convenient for transporting large loads. The luggage compartment volume increases from 440 to 1390 liters.

Weng has two gasoline engines. The basic 90-horsepower engine is combined with a manual transmission, and the more powerful “four”, developing 125 hp. pp., you can buy it with an automatic transmission. For an even more powerful 1.6 liter engine, a 6-speed manual transmission is available, which reduces average fuel consumption to 6.4 liters per 100 km. Venga with a diesel engine is not supplied to Russia.

Every engine in the Venga range is equipped with Stop & Go fuel-saving technology. This technology provides fuel savings of up to 15% when driving in city mode: during stops, the system turns off the engine and starts it again when you press the gas pedal.

Venga engines comply with the Euro 5 environmental standard. Such engines are the most modern and “environmentally friendly”.

Pros and cons compared to competitors

It is beauty and unusual design often makes car enthusiasts prefer this car. Despite its external compactness, the car is quite spacious. The car has a spacious trunk. The maneuverable Kia Venga, which has a small turning radius and clear responses to steering inputs, is comfortable in a city with a heavy traffic load. The high driving position is also comfortable in traffic jams. However, the Kia Venga is “afraid” of curbs due to its low front bumper.

As for competitors, most of them lose to the Venga: Nissan Note is smaller and has an old controversial design, Ford Fusion- tighter and tougher, Volkswagen Golf Plus - good, but much more expensive.

Interesting Facts

Venga means “Come on!” in Spanish. According to the creators, Venga is a call for a comfortable and convenient trip.

The Kia Venga is based on a platform that is also used in the Hyundai i20 and Kia Soul.

The author of the Kia Venga design, Peter Schreyer, is the author of such popular cars as the Audi TT, Audi A2, VW Golf IV and Kia Sorento. With his participation, the world-favorite Volkswagen Beetle was created. Petr Schreyer has been the chief designer of Kia Motors since 2007. He has headed the Kia Motors Corporation since 2012.

Numbers and awards

In 2009, the Kia Venga received the international iF product design awards in Germany. This is one of the most prestigious awards in the field of design.

In 2010, the model was awarded the LCA certificate from the reputable German Union of Technical Supervision TÜV Nord. This certificate indicates that the machine has minimal harmful effects on environment throughout the entire life cycle: from design to disposal.

In 2011, Kia Venga was included in the list of contenders for victory in the European Car of the Year competition, but ultimately did not receive the honorary title.

Safety

In May 2010, the Venga took part in the EuroNCAP crash safety tests and earned four out of five stars. The manufacturer did not like the result. The price of the car was at the European level and safety had to correspond to the highest rating. Changes have been made to the design of the car.

In November 2010, crash tests were carried out again. The “second round” was more successful for Weng, the car received the long-awaited 5 “stars”. The car earned 64% for protecting pedestrians, adult passengers were protected in the car by 89%, children by 85%.

general information

A completely new development from KIA Motors. The Kia Venga has no predecessors in the model range of the Hyundai-KIA Automotive Group. Venga is a subcompact car created specifically for the car-savvy European consumer. In naming the car product, the Koreans did not deviate from the intended “Spanish traditions”. Since the Spanish word “venga” is translated into Russian as “come on!”, the developers gave it their all and squeezed out the maximum for a car of its class. The car in question is KIA's attempt to carve out a place in the rather small niche of family cars. The closest competitors for the Venga are Citroen C3 Picasso, Nissan Note, Opel Meriva, Ford B-max. There are also more serious competitors - minivans Renault Scenic, Ford C-max, but they already belong to class “C”.
The advantages of such “B”-class minivans, which are more correctly considered “microvans,” in a densely populated city are obvious. The compact machine is easy to maneuver and park, and its low weight and small engine contribute to significant fuel savings. At the same time, the minivan has a high seating height, a cozy and fairly spacious interior. As a car designed specifically for family people, the car is equipped with a variety of niches, shelves, and cup holders. There are mounts for child seats. Minivans have another advantage - a transformable interior, which allows you to transport large cargo with the rear row seats folded and a different number of passengers. For the reasons presented, the KIA Venga was classified in the “M” segment of the car market, which, in addition to minivans, also includes “heels” like the Renault Kangoo and minibuses like the Renault Trafic.
Subcompact minivan KIA Venga - best helper on family trips. Maneuverability and efficiency are its superiority over the huge mass of city cars. Weng engines are standardized to Euro 5.

The Kia Venga was designed by European stylists, assembled there - in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and is not offered outside of Europe. The preferences of Korean customers were not taken into account, the main goal was to perfectly meet the needs of Europeans. Did it work? Absolutely yes!

Although Kia classifies the Weng as a representative of the B-class segment, its large body height (1.6 m) allows it to be considered a small minivan. Despite the modest perimeter of the body, we managed to get a truly spacious interior. This is facilitated by a large wheelbase - 2615 mm: more than in the Polo and even in the Golf.

Interestingly, the trunk was not damaged either. Its useful volume exceeds 400 liters. The functionality of the subcompact van increases the possibility of longitudinal displacement (by 130 mm) of the rear sofa with an adjustable backrest angle (standard equipment), as well as a double trunk floor (except for basic versions). By folding the rear seats, you can get a trunk volume of 1253 liters.

At the time of its debut on our market (2010), the base Venga had two airbags (six in the richest configuration). However, air conditioning was not included in the list of standard equipment. There are many differences between the entry-level and rich trim levels.

The presence of climate control means that this is a rich version. But the plastic, regardless of the configuration, is of average quality.

Engines

The range of engines includes petrol and diesel units (the latter are not officially offered in Russia) with a volume of 1.4 and 1.6 liters with a power from 75 to 128 hp.

The Kia Venga is quite dynamic even with a 1.4-liter 90-horsepower gasoline engine. But on the highway, such a car clearly lacks 6th gear. At speeds above 120 km/h the engine becomes unbearably noisy and thirsty for fuel. In a calm driving manner, the engine consumes about 7 liters of gasoline per 100 km.

Sometimes oil leaks are observed at the junction of the engine and gearbox. The crankshaft oil seal is to blame.

In Europe, one of the most popular options on the aftermarket is the 1.4-liter turbodiesel with 75 and 90 hp. The dynamics of both versions in the city are quite sufficient, but on the highway even the most powerful variation does not have enough power reserve. A 90-horsepower diesel engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission consumes less fuel than with a manual transmission. So on the Venga highway with a driver and 4 passengers you can easily keep it to 5 liters. In the city you will need 1.5 liters more. The turbodiesel is quite reliable, including thanks to the unregulated turbine and the absence of a dual-mass flywheel.

Sometimes there are leaks from the injection pump. European dealers offer customers a replacement of the entire pump, the cost of which is almost 40,000 rubles. However, it can be repaired, which is much cheaper.

On the run

Kia Venga starts to get very nervous at high speeds. On transverse irregularities and waves, it bounces like a ball. Drivers who prefer a dynamic driving style complain about steering, too soft clutch and difficulties with quickly engaging third gear, which is sometimes accompanied by a grinding noise.

The suspension is set up quite rigidly. In addition, it handles bumps too loudly, which further reduces the level of comfort.

Short-lived bushings and front stabilizer struts (700 rubles apiece) will require certain expenses.

It is worth noting that the air conditioner is not efficient enough. It takes quite a lot of time for the sun-heated interior to cool down. The lack of an ambient temperature indicator also causes some inconvenience. Parking sensors will be invaluable assistants in the parking lot - poor rear visibility makes maneuvering difficult.

Typical problems and malfunctions

The Kia Venga doesn't have any major reliability issues, but some problems are expensive to fix. For example, when the steering angle sensor stops working, the steering fault warning light comes on - sometimes supplemented by ABS and ESP indicators, and the power steering is turned off. In this case, unfortunately, the entire steering column will need to be replaced, the cost of which exceeds 60,000 rubles. Fortunately, such cases are isolated. If only ESP errors appear in the system, then simply check the electrical connections.

The internal cavities of the thresholds are abundantly waxed, which guarantees long-term protection against corrosion.

Sometimes the creaking of the front panel gets tiring (especially in winter). To eliminate noise, plastic sizing is necessary. Another drawback is the spontaneous reset of the on-board computer’s fuel consumption readings (should be reset immediately after refueling).

State door handles after 100,000 km of intensive use, for example, as a taxi.

Approximate cost of spare parts

Oil filter – 200 rubles.

Air filter – 500 rubles.

Brake pads (front) – 2000 rubles per set.

Brake discs (front) – 3000 rubles for 1 disc.

Rear wheel bearing - about 6,000 rubles (complete with hub).

Front shock absorber - 3000 rubles.

Headlight - 17,000 rubles.

Hood – 26,000 rubles.

Conclusion

The Kia Venga is an interesting model but requires a pre-purchase inspection to ensure there are no costly faults, which unfortunately do sometimes occur.
